Addressing Typical Challenges in Gold Plating Jewelry

Inconsistent Plating Thickness
Each product undergoes pre‑ and post‑plating inspections using X‑ray fluorescence thickness gauging (≥0.08μm), minimizing variation across batches.

Tarnishing & Quality Failures
We conduct 72-hour salt spray, 500-cycle wear resistance, over 1.5-kilogram tensile strength, and 300-cycle rolling test to verify products’ color retention and durability before packaging.

Unpredictable Lead Times
With a transparent production system and advanced management standards, we ensure a 97% on-time delivery rate. You can track the production progress and order status in real-time.
Insufficient Quality Documentation
We provide 100% traceable compliance reports for REACH, RoHS, SGS, ISO, and RIC, backed by a 15-year archived database of material and testing records for every batch.
Our Gold Plating Process
As an expert custom gold-plated jewelry manufacturer, we treat every step as a critical point of failure that must be managed.
How our gold plating process delivers consistency:
1. Raw Material Inspection
Before gold plating begins, we inspect the base metal (stainless steel or brass) for surface stains and impurities that could interfere with the adhesion of the gold layer.
2. Surface Preparation
The jewelry undergoes ultrasonic cleaning and polishing to remove oils and dust, as well as a mild acid bath to remove surface oxides. These guarantee the gold will bond firmly to the metal.
3. Base Layer Application
We apply a high-quality base layer to improve the brightness of the final finish and act as a barrier to prevent the base metal from migrating into the gold layer, preventing premature tarnishing.
4. Plating Application
Using electroplating and PVD systems, gold layers are deposited with precise thickness control. Whether it is 14K or 18K, our technicians monitor the process to ensure color consistency.
5. Post-Treatment
After plating, pieces are rinsed and treated with an anti-tarnish coating if required. Every batch undergoes a final visual and technical inspection to verify thickness and color.
“We strictly control the entire production process to ensure consistent jewelry quality.”
There are different gold plating technologies for your design needs, including:
Professional gold plated jewelry manufacturers typically utilize the following two primary methods:
The jewelry piece is submerged in an electrolyte solution containing gold ions. An electric current passes through, attracting and depositing gold onto the item. It is ideal for achieving thick gold layers and offers a “true gold” luster that is difficult to replicate.
PVD is performed in a vacuum chamber. Gold is vaporized and bonds at a molecular level to the jewelry’s surface. The result is an extremely hard, tarnish-resistant, and hypoallergenic layer. While the gold layer is thinner, the vacuum process makes it incredibly resistant to sweat, seawater, and daily wear, ideal for “waterproof” jewelry lines.

Thickness directly impacts longevity, cost, and suitable applications. As a custom gold-plated jewelry manufacturer, we help you find the “sweet spot” for your brand.

“We have been working with StarHarvest for over 3 years and their quality control is impeccable. In our recent order of 50,000 pieces, their stainless steel chain had a defect rate of less than 0.5%. What impressed us most was that they proactively provided a report on the plating thickness before shipping – exactly the kind of diligence we need.”

“Their material certification system is thorough. Each brass alloy batch comes with mill test reports showing exact composition. When we requested lead-free compliance documentation for EU market, they provided full test reports within 12 hours. This level of professionalism is rare.”

“Star Harvest’S Responsiveness Saved Us A Major Holiday Production. When We Needed A Last-Minute Modification To A Stainless Steel Pendant, Their Engineering Team Had Cad Adjustments Ready Within 6 Hours. Their Sample Accuracy Means We Can Now Skip Prototyping—The First Batch Is 95% Production-Ready.”

What plating thicknesses are available?
What plating thicknesses are available?
We offer a full range from 0.1μm to 5.0μm+, customized by product use.
- 1-0.3μm (color retention for 3-6 months) is commonly used for fast-fashion items, suitable for e-commerce startups.
- 5-1.0μm (color retention for 1-2 years) balances performance and cost, making it ideal for rapidly growing brands that are optimizing their supply chains.
- 5-2.0μm (color retention for 3-5 years) involves a slight increase in cost but offers enhanced durability. It helps reduce returns and build brand trust.
- 0μm+ (color retention for over 5 years) is recommended for North American/European brands that prioritize long-term quality.
